The Dandelion Team, Jabil Wuxi’s employee volunteer program, works with many different groups in need within their community, including the elderly, children, and the poor. Named after the dandelion flower, the team’s goal is to spread their care throughout their community and beyond. “The dandelion seed represents our love and concern for the welfare of others. Like the seed, our care isn’t confined by the borders of our community,” says Catherine Zhao, Employee Relations Specialist.
In the last year, the Dandelion Team has organized 28 events to empower less fortunate members in their community, with more than 500 employees volunteering their time. The team purposely selected a variety of social, educational and empowering activities so they could positively impact the community in different ways.
For the past year, employees have made monthly visits to Wuxi Social Welfare Center, a home for the elderly, where they throw birthday parties for the residents, bring gifts, order cake, and put on a small singing and dancing show. The Wuxi Social Welfare Center recently invited the Dandelion Team to the home to present them with a certificate of appreciation for their continuous and outstanding work.
Along with assisting the elderly of the community, the site makes sure to also help the children of Wuxi. For more than two years, employees on the Dandelion Team have made monthly visits to an orphanage, Wuxi Children’s Welfare Center, where they make arts and crafts with the children and occasionally put on magic shows. Each year, the children are invited to join the site’s annual Jabil Family Day and Pig Roast.
Social activities are always fun for the volunteers, but supporting educational efforts is also important for the Dandelion Team. For the past 11 years, Jabil Wuxi has offered financial assistance in the form of books and school bag donations for the Qinghe primary school, in addition to tutoring students. Since 2008, their “Hope Project” has paid the tuition for children from low-income or migrant families. The Dandelion Team also visits an autistic school and most recently planted vegetable seeds with the children as a fun project.
As their motto says, the Dandelions not only helps those in Wuxi but also go beyond their borders. In December, employees collected 500 pieces of winter clothing to take to Tianzhu, Guizhou – the most impoverished province in China. Dandelion Team members and some of the site’s management traveled over 1,000 miles to deliver the donations and worked with Puji Public, a local NGO, to help distribute the clothing.
Jabil Wuxi’s longstanding dedication to these organizations demonstrates their continuous goal of empowering and educating those less fortunate in the community.
Jabil Cares, our community outreach and volunteerism platform, supports localized efforts around specific causes related to Education, Empowerment, and the Environment.
