Jabil Teams Receive American Society for Quality International Team Excellence Awards for the Second Year in a Row

On May 3, 2017, teams from Jabil Wuxi and Nypro Shanghai received awards at this year's American Society for Quality (ASQ) International Team Excellence Award competition. The teams competed in a field of 23 finalists and both earned the Bronze-level Award. The ASQ International Team Excellence Award recognizes teams for their efforts in driving innovation by creating efficiencies and reducing waste at their facilities. 

"We are very proud of Jabil Wuxi and Nypro Shanghai for achieving the Bronze Award at the ASQ International Team Excellence Award competition. Jabil teams have received awards for the second year in a row, which is a great accomplishment," said Clint Belinsky, VP Global Quality at Jabil. “This continued recognition from the world’s premier quality improvement competition demonstrates Jabil’s leadership in the advancement of manufacturing quality and performance.” 

The Jabil Wuxi project focused on the Quality Planning process to reduce Defects per Million Opportunities (DPMO), and achieve a reduction in Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ). Team members included: JianMei XUE (Quality Manager), Woodrow Huang (QE lead) and Piner Zhao (Lean Manager). In addition to the Bronze award, the team received a Conference Attendee Choice Award for the “Creative Solution/Action” category.  

The Nypro Shanghai project aimed to reduce the un-accounted cost, increase Non-Recurring Expenses (NRE) effectiveness hit rate, and decrease the NRE process lead time. Team members included: Daisy Pu (Regional Controller), Carrie Qian (Assistant Plant Controller), Angela Shen (Accounting Supervisor), Johnson Jia (Lean Coach). The team also received a Conference Attendee Choice Award in the “Inspiring Presentation” category. 

The third Jabil team that competed in this year’s International Team Excellence Award competition was also from Nypro Shanghai and were awarded a Conference Attendee Choice Award in the “Highest Organizational Impact” category. Their project concentrated on reducing the cost of quality from improvements to First Pass Yield, Out of Box Audit and Customer Return Rate. Team members included: Santos Adonis (Assistant Quality Manager), Walt Huang (Quality Engineer), Hanson Zhang (ERP SME) and Lillian Lin (Production Supervisor). 

At last year’s ASQ International Team Excellence Award competition, Jabil Singapore and Nypro Shanghai were both awarded the Silver-level award.
