Packaging Capabilities

Bringing consumer packaged goods brands to life

Companies producing consumer packaged goods (CPGs) are at a turning point — find smart ways to make their products and packaging sustainable, or face increasing regulations, taxes, and consumer backlash. Organizations are seeking ways to comply with sustainability mandates, yet assessing what’s needed, sourcing the right materials, and designing products accordingly is extremely complex. Every factor is interdependent, and creating the right end-to-end solution requires expertise that’s out of scope for most brands.

Jabil Packaging Solutions (JPS) has the resources and experience to deliver innovative, sustainable packaging for virtually any consumer product — from food and beverage to home and personal care. The JPS process of innovation employs these key solutions for customers:

  • Design new packaging formats or modify existing products to meet your sustainability goals.
  • Determine the best sustainable materials for your package and source them intelligently, while factoring for price, supply, and technical performance.
  • Assess and validate the carbon footprint, recyclability and sustainability of your new product design to ensure an optimal end-of-life result.

How We Solve Your Toughest Packaging Challenges

Design for Sustainability

Jabil Packaging Solutions drives faster time-to-market and validation with our proven “process of innovation.” To achieve practical sustainability, you must carefully consider all phases of development and production to combine the highest functionality, lowest cost, and smallest environmental impact. With so much of a product’s success directly affected by its design and manufacturability, the JPS team’s experience and expertise in every aspect of sustainable packaging is an asset for any company rethinking its green strategies.

Innovative JPS design experts are chemical, industrial, materials, process, human factors, and mechanical engineers. Applying these skills to packaging, they collaborate with your teams to deliver innovative solutions to help customers deliver fully on their brand promises and sustainability goals.

Materials Sourcing & Development

Determining the right design and packaging materials – from biodegradable fibers to a specialized polymer resin – for a particular product or component is just the first step. Finding dependable, competitive sources is the next. JPS prioritizes strong supplier relationship management to provide reliable access to diverse sources of recyclable, PCR, bio-based, and biodegradable/compostable resins worldwide — ensuring an uninterrupted supply chain while minimizing the environmental impact of long-distance shipping.

Packaging with the right materials enhances brands; that’s why JPS labs and innovation centers leverages materials science expertise to optimize manufacturability, performance, and cost to enable the best options for carbon impact, reduction, reuse, and recyclability. For example, we develop hybrid packaging to address unique product needs and find innovative materials for barrier packaging techniques.

Sustainable Packaging Assessment

Accurately calculating a carbon footprint or lifecycle assessment requires a quantitative understanding of the end-to-end supply chain, adding the impacts of source materials, transport, manufacture, as well as end-of-life considerations. The JPS team can assess your current product’s carbon footprint and provide recommendations to improve sustainability — from using recyclable, bio-based, or biodegradable materials and lightweighting to simply changing source material vendors or locations.

In close collaboration with your own teams, JPS then interprets all these data points, weighing considerations like the costs of change vs. the costs of inaction and remediation. In addition to enabling sustainable packaging choices, this iterative process can reveal opportunities for enhanced branding, improved manufacturability, as well as a faster, more reliable, and cost-effective supply chain.

Tooling and Mold Making

Jabil Packaging Solutions offers integrated engineering and mold-making services, supporting the full lifecycle of custom tooling solutions. Our capabilities span from single-cavity prototype molds to high-volume, multi-cavity production tools. We specialize in advanced molding technologies, including stack molds, in-mold labeling (IML), in-mold closing (IMC), and two-shot (multi-material) applications. With in-house design, precision machining, and validation processes, we ensure high-performance molds that meet demanding quality standards while maintaining competitive lead times and production scalability.

We offer a variety of injection molding solutions, including stack molding, servo molds, and in-mold closing, for tethered closures.

Packaging Automation

JPS provides comprehensive automation project management, spanning from prototype development through to industrial-scale line automation. Our engineering teams work closely with customers to design custom automation solutions for non-standard product formats and to validate these systems during the Design for Manufacturing (DFM) process. When external automation equipment is required, we ensure seamless integration with injection molding machines (IMMs), managing both mechanical and control system interfaces for reliable, production-ready operation.

Assembly

Jabil Packaging Solutions provides advanced assembly services encompassing continuous motion systems, linear index systems, and manual assembly where applicable. Continuous motion assembly platforms deliver superior cycle-to-cycle consistency and precision alignment, optimizing the assembly of complex multi-component thermoplastic parts such as applicators, pumps, dispensers, and child-resistant closures.

Linear index systems facilitate high-efficiency processing of complex assemblies through integrated operations including pick-and-place automation, precision screwdriving, controlled dispensing, crimping, pressing, and ultrasonic welding. Manual assembly is selectively used in cases where automation is technically impractical, economically unjustifiable due to low production volumes, or constrained by capital limitations.

Our Molding Solutions

Injection Compression Molding

Precise injection molding is an advanced manufacturing process that enables the creation of highly detailed and dimensionally accurate plastic components by injecting molten material into meticulously engineered molds. This technology is ideal for producing complex geometries with tight tolerances, ensuring consistent quality and repeatability across high-volume production runs. At JPS, our team of experts will assess your needs and guide you throughout the entire injection molding process helping your team achieve mass production goals on time and with excellence.

Multi-Layer/Co-injection

Co-injection technology allows for the precise placement of an EVOH barrier layer within a package, delivering enhanced protection against oxygen and moisture. It’s especially effective for caps, closures, and containers enabling advanced geometries and barrier placement not achievable with traditional thermoforming. Jabil Packaging Solutions offers scalable co-injection molding systems engineered to meet demanding regulatory and functional performance requirements across industries including healthcare, personal care, food and beverage, and industrial.

In-Mold Labeling

In-mold labeling (IML) is a manufacturing process in which a pre-printed label is inserted into the mold cavity and permanently fused with the molten resin during injection or blow molding. The label and the part become a single integrated structure, offering superior adhesion, durability, and print quality without the need for post-molding decoration. Jabil Packaging Solutions offers turnkey in-mold labeling integration, supporting high-volume, automated production across a global network of facilities.

Fiber Molding
